Together with other nearby petroglyphs from the Tanum Rock Engraving Area, they are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List of Archaeological Cultural Heritage. The Tanum UNESCO World Cultural Heritage area is in the province Bohuslän – roughly the area of western Sweden between the city Gothenburg and the Norwegian border. Bronze Age rock carvings are found throughout Bohuslän and much of the rest of Sweden and Scandinavia but the concentration is particularly high in the Tanum area. The site in question is located at higher ground, at the northeastern part of the World Heritage of Tanum (Fig 2). It fol- lows a trail with several figurative rock art sites, one of these is the panel Balken that include the famous depiction of a sun horse as well as other images and designs. Although the rock carvings of Tanum today are located almost ten kilometres from the coast, they were still directly on the coast during their creation, due to the Scandinavian land uplift. Tanum is a municipality in Bohuslän. It is best known for the numerous bronze age and iron age rock carvings (petroglyphs, Swedish: Hällristningsområdet), which were inscribed on the UNESCO cultural heritage list in 1994. Fossum.
