This week, I also met Göran Sandberg, Executive Director of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation in Stockholm. The foundation awards many considerable and important grants to researchers in Sweden. One such project is the career programme for young researchers – Wallenberg Academy Fellows.

The Foundation’s aim is to benefit Sweden by supporting Swedish basic research and education, primarily in medicine, technology and the natural sciences. Lectures given at the 2013 Marcus Wallenberg Prize Symposium held in Stockholm on 24 September, 2013.

The Foundation has distributed almost SEK 2.6 billion in grants since its establishment. Marcus Wallenberg After graduating from the Stockholm School of Economics, he was employed at Stockholms Enskilda Bank in 1925, where he was appointed vice president in 1927 and succeeded his brother Jacob Wallenberg as CEO in 1946.
